Theme

The debate surrounding the “Right to Disconnect” has gained significant traction in recent years, fueled by the increasing blurring of boundaries between work and personal life, especially in the context of work-life balance. Vivaad will be touching on multiple dimensions of labor laws, company policies, and societal impact, with implications on mental stress, unemployment, toxic work culture and even the economic impact on industries and nations. Advocates for the right to disconnect argue that long working hours and the expectation of constant availability negatively affect employees’ mental stress leading to burnout, anxiety, and other health problems. Arguments whether this legal right can be made applicable for professionals like doctors, lawyers, judges are also surfacing.

Opponents of the right to disconnect argue that it might hinder the flexibility and agility required in competitive industries, particularly those with global operations. They contend that employees need to be available across different time zones to respond to international clients and ensure business continuity. Enforcing strict regulations on working hours might increase unemployment, especially in industries that require a high level of flexibility
